Botox has become one of the most popular facial rejuvenation treatments, providing patients with astounding results. Men and women alike can both experience the amazing benefits that this injectable treatment will provide. The first step is contacting our office to schedule a consultation!

What is Botox?

When we smile, frown, laugh, or make any other types of facial expression, the muscles in our face contract. This causes grooves to form under the skin’s surface. Younger women and men don’t tend to notice this because they have plenty of collagen which allows the skin to spring back to normal smooth contour. With age though, the skin above the contracting muscles starts to gain visible lines and wrinkles because there isn’t as much collagen and elasticity to return the skin to smooth contour; therefore the grooves and lines remain visible.

Botox works to combat this issue by temporarily paralyzing the muscles which prevents them from contracting.

Botox is highly diluted botulinum toxin that is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face, as well as helping to prevent further signs of aging from developing. Botox is very safe to use with a long track record of clinical success. This treatment can provide amazing results for women and men alike.

Botox is extremely effective in maintaining a youthful appearance when routine injections are undergone.

The science behind this effective anti-aging treatment is the highly diluted botulinum toxin that is injected into specific muscles on the face. When this is done, the Botox blocks nerve signals that are being sent from the brain.

The blocking of this signal will prevent the activation of the muscle contractions, ultimately stiffening the area to prevent any further wrinkles and/or lines from forming. The prevention of muscle contractions is temporary, about 3-4 months. This makes it a great treatment for those who do not want to commit to the results of a long-lasting surgery, let alone it’s great for those who do not want to undergo surgery altogether.

Although it is not commonly known for this form of treatment, Botox is also approved to treat hyperhidrosis. This particular medical condition causes excessive and unpredictable sweating. Hyperhidrosis can lead to many inconveniences in day to day life and hinder being able to enjoy certain aspects of life. Botox is also tested and approved to help patients who experience frequent migraines. It is best to consult with your primary care physician first if interested in these forms of Botox treatments.

Benefits

Botox treatments are able to help an array of aesthetic concerns that arise on a person’s face due to aging. Just about everyone can partake in the rejuvenating benefits that this treatment provides. Some of the popular benefits include:

  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • A more youthful appearance
  • Easy maintenance
  • Non-surgical
  • No downtime
  • Cost-effective
  • No discomfort

Candidates

The majority of people considering Botox injections are good candidates; however, there are certain cases in which these particular injections would not be a good fit. This includes those who have an active infection of skin in the treatment area, those diagnosed with a muscle/nerve disease that becomes negatively affected when coming in contact with botulinum toxin, and women currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

The ideal candidate for Botox treatments would be someone in good health who is looking to reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines in certain areas of the face.

Patients should have reasonable expectations for this treatment and understand that Botox does not provide permanent results; although, they are long-lasting with recurrent treatment. For those who are looking into more long-term results that do not require maintenance, a surgical procedure such as a facelift may be better suited.

Wrinkles and Skin Laxity

Wrinkles are a natural product of aging but can be avoided. Wrinkle formation is a combination of the effects of wear and tear on your skin caused by repetitive facial muscle contractions. Frowning, chewing, furrowing eyebrows cause the skin to contract and fold along your facial features. Youthful skin has the durability and elasticity to retain a smooth, taut appearance, but over time skin becomes less capable of bouncing back from repeated contractions. Studies have also demonstrated that sun exposure expedites the decline of your skin youthful elasticity, resulting in rapid wrinkle formation. When it comes to the signs of aging, it is proven that prevention is the best strategy.

Where Can Botox Be Injected?

The most common areas where Botox is injected are the forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, and lines that tend to form under the mouth (most commonly found in patients who are smokers.) This treatment has been found very effective in providing assistance in minimizing the imperfections in these areas and work to sustain a more youthful appearance.

Botox can also be injected in the underarms to help prevent hyperhidrosis. This will “tell” the nerve signals causing the sweating to slow down production. Additionally, Botox is often used to lessen the appearance of a ‘gummy smile’; this is when the gum-to-tooth ratio is too close. This is countered with Botox injections into the muscles behind the upper lip. The solution will relax the upper lip, allowing it to cover more gum tissue and produce a more ‘natural’ smile.

Complementary Treatments

Botox treatments pair well with other facial rejuvenation and anti-aging techniques. Botox is primarily an aging-prevention treatment, but there are many great solutions for symptoms of aging that have already appeared. Loss of volume, deep creases and sunken areas of the face require different types of treatment.

Fat Transfer

The fat transfer, or autologous fat transfer, is an anti-wrinkle, anti-aging technique where your body’s natural resources of fat are harvested to treat the signs of aging. The fat transfer can achieve hand rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, breast augmentation, buttock augmentation and calf augmentation. Your body’s natural resources of fat are ideal because there is no risk of allergic reaction and the results look very natural.

Juvederm

This dermal injection consists of a clear gel that is made of hyaluronic acid, which is a capable volumizing agent for restoring facial contour and eliminating wrinkles. The Juvederm line offers a variety of dermal injections such as Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Volbella, and classic Juvederm. Each type offers a unique set of benefits indicated for specific signs of aging.

When meeting with the doctor, he will listen to the patient’s particular concerns and work with them to create an individualized treatment plan. A physical examination of the concern areas will take place, and from all of the information gathered Dr. Hamlet will be able to determine candidacy. It is very likely that patients coming in for a Botox consultation will be classified as candidates.

If time permits, patients are usually able to receive the injections at the time of the consultation. If deep creases or volume loss are concerns as well, patients can also receive dermal filler injections during this appointment to help create improved contour and a smoother appearance.

Botox Injection Process

The doctor and his medical technicians will begin by filling a special syringe with the proper dosage of Botox for the requested results. Next, he will locate the exact areas on the face that will be treated. Once the target areas are located, Dr. Hamlet will use a very fine needle to inject the Botox directly into the underlying facial muscle.

It is not uncommon for multiple areas on the face to be treated during this appointment. The treatment itself lasts about 10-15 minutes in its entirety, making it an effective and efficient skin rejuvenating procedure that can be done during a lunch break or in between running errands.

Although this treatment is not painful, patients can opt for a topical anesthetic. The numbing cream will need to be applied about 20 minutes prior to receiving the injections and will help reduce any discomfort that he or she may feel. Dr. Hamlet, using his years of experience, artistic eye, and deep understanding of facial anatomy to provide patients with the most natural-looking results.

After Your Injections

Directly following the treatment, patients may experience redness, swelling, or mild bruising, if any, at the injection site(s). These symptoms will all subside within a couple of days. Dr. Hamlet asks all patients to refrain from physical activity for a couple of days following the injections. Daily activities can be resumed to immediately; there is absolutely no downtime for Botox treatments.

Within a week, patients will notice that their fine lines and wrinkles have softened. In order to maintain these results, patients should come in for injections about every 3 months.
