About London Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty restores facial harmony by improving the proportions of the nose

During Rhinoplasty surgery, also known as a “nose job,” bone and cartilage are re-shaped to improve the appearance and function of the nose. The new nose contours achieved appear natural and add attractive balance to the face. Every rhinoplasty is tailored with careful consideration of the patient’s preferred outcomes and the requirements of their natural anatomy, whether the goal of the treatment is cosmetic or out of medical necessity.

Rhinoplasty can reduce the size of the nose, lift or reshape the nose tip, and straighten or even out the bridge of the nose. Rhinoplasty can also restore breathing function and repair damage that may have been caused by injury, sports, genetics, or previous rhinoplasty surgery.

Patients will need to take one to two weeks off from work or their daily activities following their rhinoplasty. Results of rhinoplasty at Dr. Grant Hamlet will be enjoyed for years to come!

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Every rhinoplasty at Dr. Grant Hamlet is tailored to the unique patient. With rhinoplasty, we can:

  • Add lift to the tip of the nose
  • Reposition bone and straighten the nose
  • Decrease the size of the nose
  • Reshape the bridge, including reducing a hump in the nose
  • Reshape nostrils
  • Draw attention to the eyes
  • Achieve better facial balance
  • Improve breathing
  • Correct outcomes of previous rhinoplasty surgery
  • Improve self-confidence

Candidates for Rhinoplasty

If you would like to correct the outcomes of previous rhinoplasty surgery, you are a good candidate for revision rhinoplasty.

Are you unhappy with the appearance of your nose? Rhinoplasty will reshape your nose to draw attention to the eyes and improve facial balance. Patients who are having trouble breathing through their nose are good candidates to restore their breathing function with a Rhinoplasty. Candidates for Rhinoplasty should be in overall good health and free of any condition which could impede their body’s ability to heal after surgery.

Dr. Hamlet will assess what treatment options will best preserve and improve candidates’ remaining nose tissue.

Patients who are smokers will be asked to discontinue smoking at least three weeks before their surgery date. Rhinoplasty is a good option for patients who are open to and have realistic expectations of the outcomes possible with a cosmetic or medical procedure. Some patients may be good candidates to contour their nose with non-surgical rhinoplasty. Non-Surgical rhinoplasty is performed with injectable fillers, like Juvederm. A non-surgical rhinoplasty can add shape to the nose that will last for six to eighteen months before maintenance treatments will be necessary.

Rhinoplasty at Dr. Grant Hamlet

Patients will receive their rhinoplasty surgery under general anesthesia.

Rhinoplasty is performed with an open or closed surgical method. The type of surgical method a patient receives will depend on their unique nose tissue and the goals of their procedure.

During a closed surgical procedure, all changes are made through incisions inside the nostrils. As a result, there is no external scarring. Dr. Hamlet will reposition the bone, cartilage, and tissue as needed to achieve the patient’s preferred appearance.

All incisions will be closed with dissolvable stitches. The nose will be bandaged and placed in a splint.

In order to perform an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made between the nostrils, in the columella. The skin is then lifted up from the underside of the nose. This allows Dr. Hamlet to have clear access to the bone and cartilage. Dr. Hamlet will artfully sculpt the cartilage, bone, and tissue to achieve a shape that flatters the patient’s features and maintains healthy breathing function. The incisions will be strategically placed to conceal any scarring. Revision rhinoplasty is usually performed with the open surgical method.

Patients will be monitored following their rhinoplasty until they are approved same-day for release.

Recovery after Rhinoplasty

Post-procedure bruising and swelling will improve over the weeks following the procedure.

You will receive detailed instructions to help you recover as comfortably as possible following your rhinoplasty surgery. Patients will need to pick up any necessary medications before their surgery date. Do not take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen during your recovery. They will make it difficult for the blood to clot and can exacerbate post-procedure swelling.

Patients will not be able to drive themselves home following their procedure. Coordinate a ride with a friend or family member to make sure you get home safely.

Patients will need to take one to two weeks off work to allow their incisions to heal.

You will need to wear a nose splint for the first week of your recovery. In some cases, it may take a few months for swelling in and around the nose to settle completely.

Patients will be able to return to more strenuous exercise after three to four months.
